The deluge of deucalion

BY STEFANIE CHIN

dear dr. ford. on behalf of people I do not know and those I do I am

so. so sorry so angry sad frustrated betrayed. yesterday the story of

circe had been just that it had been a story and I had smiled when the

goddess of aiaia bewitched predatory men into swine. today my

professor cries diamond tears that have been crystalizing under

pressures that would have crushed atlas. and tomorrow I will wake up

with a pit in my chest deeper and wider and darker than the tartarus

and mine will contain far more shameful creatures than tantalus the

child eater, than ixion the father killer. just five minutes ago I

discovered a spider crawling up my finger and I smeared its small

black body across the creamy pages of my favorite book and I

thought that. that is what the gods any god we only need the one

should do to us before we do to ourselves far worse.
