POETRY BOARD

Poetry Board Head Editor, Samantha Chen ‘23

Samantha Chen is a poet and undergraduate student at Hamilton College, where she studies psychology and creative writing. Her work has appeared in Caustic Frolic, Matchbox Magazine, and Red Wheelbarrow. When she’s not thinking about the tenuous relationship between space & body, extraterrestrials & tenderness, childhood trauma & burning at the stake, she paints, runs, and does yoga.

Calyn Clare Liss ‘22

Calyn Clare Liss is a senior at Hamilton College, majoring in Creative Writing and Classical Languages. She started writing in the first grade and has not stopped since, although her true literary passion lies with editing the work of others. In both prose and poetry, she most appreciates simple yet beautiful language. When not agonizing over translation errors, misused homophones, and the linguistic study of pragmatics, she tends to her five pet frogs and listens (perhaps excessively) to Fleetwood Mac.

Madison Lazenby ‘23

Madison Lazenby is a junior at Hamilton College, where she studies Creative Writing and Women’s & Gender Studies. She is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Hamilton College Monitor, a poetry reader for Red Weather, and a poetry editor for Body Without Organs. She is a graduate of the UVA Young Writers Workshop, a Pushcart Prize nominee, and has been recognized by the Academy of American Poets, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and the 1455 Literary Festival. Abigail Moone ‘23 (Fall)

Abigail Moone is an artist and student from Idaho studying Women’s and Gender Studies and French at Hamilton College. She has written poetry all her life, and believes that art is fundamental to the human experience. She is particularly interested in narratives around queerness and identity, and believes in the celebration of joy and gratitude. Besides Red Weather, Abigail is involved with a number of other campus organizations, and loves rock climbing, experimental cooking, and sitting in the grass. 

Bella Moses ‘23 (Fall)

Bella Moses is a junior at Hamilton College currently pursuing a BA in creative writing. She is the recipient of the The Adam Gordon Poetry Prize for First-Year Students. Her recent work can be found in The Oakland Arts Review and Right Hand Pointing. Life loves include sunlit windows, Virginia Woolf, and walking uphill.

Gabi De Mendonca Gomes ‘24

Gabi is a sophomore from São Paulo, Brazil who’s currently living in Hoboken, New Jersey. She’s majoring in Literature and Philosophy, and unsurprisingly, you can always find her with a book in-hand that she wants to talk to you about. On campus besides classes, she is on the poetry board for Red Weather Literary Magazine, works at the Oral Communications Center, does Mock Trial, and is the Opinion Section Editor for the Continental Magazine; off campus, she loves snowboarding, hiking, and writing.

Lucy Seward ‘24

Lucy Seward is a sophomore at Hamilton from Atlanta. She’s not yet positive what she wants to study but will probably end up a Lit or Art History major. She loves to read and write and draw and be outside. She also loves music and critiquing/editing writing. In high school she won several Scholastic Awards for her artwork, and although she doesn't have much time for it these days, she's always loved to write stories and poems of her own.

Hollis Mann

Hollis is a sophomore poetry board member from Connecticut. She plans to double major in Literature and Cinema here at Hamilton but is currently undecided! In addition to the poetry board, Hollis is a Sadove student programmer as well as a member of the Center for Intersectional Feminism (CIF.) She is a longtime lover of prose poetry, overly sweet coffee, and bad period dramas.

Gregory Duke is a senior from New Jersey majoring in Literature and German Studies. Having, as a child, hated everything ever written, he believes his prior critical nature and his current love of writing provide him with the prerequisite experience to help find some of the most exciting undergraduate voices at Hamilton.

Kayla Beardslee ‘22

Kayla is a senior Creative Writing major from Medford, MA. In her free time, she writes (mostly poetry), reads (mostly fantasy), and wanders around listening to music (mostly pop). She also hosts a radio show, writes song and album reviews for The Singles Jukebox and In Review Online, and is currently writing a collection of poems inspired by songs for her senior project, yet still has more music opinions than she knows what to do with. Kayla's dream is to live in Minas Tirith, spend summers in Rivendell, and retire to the Shire.

 
Maja Domagała

Maja Domagała ‘24

Maja Domagała is a Polish-American writer and undergraduate student at Hamilton College, where she plans to double major in Creative Writing and Women’s and Gender Studies. Most of her writing focuses on immigration, mental health, and LGBTQ+ themes, and conveys her passion for more proper representation in media. In the past, she has interned at Shambhala Publications, which has encouraged her to pursue working in publishing post-undergraduate. When she is not drafting books, short stories, and poems, she can most often be found spending time with her loved ones or trying to conquer her endless reading list.

 

Kimmie Johnson ‘24

Kimmie Johnson is a sophomore at Hamilton College, where she's studying Archaeology and Creative Writing. She's fond of historical fiction, especially historical fiction surrounding previously-untold aspects of women's history. When she's not writing or listening to 80s power ballads, she's usually thinking about what to write next.

Elise Wilson is a senior from Connecticut studying Philosophy. She is publicity chair for the Mock Trial and is currently working remotely for a law firm. She is also on the e-board for The Continental and Suture. In her free time, Elise loves to watch poorly written Christmas movies.

 
Jessica Frantzen

Jessica Frantzen ‘24

Jessica Frantzen is a sophomore from Pennsylvania hoping to major in Psychology and Japanese. A member of the debate club eboard and editorially-minded, Jessica is fond of stories with a fantastical twist and those that place emphasis on mental health and LGBT+ themes. In her free time, when not dreaming up new characters, Jessica enjoys playing tabletop and video games and desperately trying to save her new succulent.

Emma Swan ‘23

Emma Swan is a junior Literature major from Parsippany, New Jersey. She is president of the Hamilton College Poetry Slam Club, co-section editor for Spectator News, and a tutor at the Nesbitt-Johnson Writing Center. She has folded several hundred paper cranes.

 

Caitlin Moehrle ‘24

Caitlin Moehrle is a sophomore from New York majoring in Creative Writing with a minor in Music. She was awarded the Kellogg Essay Prize her freshman year at Hamilton and is a proud violinist of the Hamilton College Orchestra. Her writing playlists consist of an eclectic loop of Claude Debussy, Frank Sinatra, and Takako Mamiya.

Hannah Terao ‘23

Hannah is a junior studying Creative Writing and Linguistics. She enjoys stories that focus on promoting diversity and open discussions of mental health issues. In addition to writing and editing, she enjoys dancing, crocheting, and spending time with her family and friends.

 

Alison Isko ‘24

Alison Isko is a first-year student at Hamilton College who enjoys creative writing and history. Aside from Red Weather, she is a current copy editor for the Spectator and a former Executive Editor for Polyphony Lit; as Alison was raised in Manhattan, she has developed far too many opinions on far too many things, primarily about other people’s writing. Her work has been recognized on multiple occasions by organizations like the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and she is in the process of writing a novel.

Spring Art Board Head Editor, Eliza Roberts ‘24

Eliza Roberts is a sophomore at Hamilton College where she would love to major in Creative Writing or History. She finds inspiration in both visual arts and writing, and hopes to continue both throughout her life. In high school, she received a National Scholastic Award for art, and contributed both writing and art for the Literary Arts Magazine. She finds inspiration in both visual arts and writing, and hopes to continue both throughout her life. Aside from those, she loves cuddling with her corgi, Puck, baking and ice skating!

Charlie Guterman ‘22

Charlie Guterman is an artist and poet at Hamilton College. Her work has been published and recognized in the Battering Ram Literary Journal, on the Young Poets Network, by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and by the Adam Gordon Poetry Prize for First Year Students. When not making art, Charlie enjoys climbing rocks and watching clouds.

Emma Berry ‘22

Emma is a senior at Hamilton College with a love for making art, particularly drawing and painting. She has supported young writers and artists during summer jobs and is currently a docent at the Wellin Museum. Along with art, she loves writing, studying Chinese, and cats in no particular order.


Maia Macek '25

Maia is a first year artist exploring fun classes from math to drawing to literature. She loves creating all kinds of mixed media art working with collage, paint, and photography. Her artwork and poetry has been published in her high school's literary and arts magazine. Her work focuses on capturing a current moment or feeling. When she's not creating, she loves running and exploring the outdoors.

Alaina McKeen ‘24

Alaina is a sophomore at Hamilton College, planning to concentrate in Environmental Studies and Art. In high school, she received National Scholastics Awards for her ceramics works. Outside of art, Alaina enjoys playing golf, hockey, and spending time with her dog, Finn.
